MO' HORIZONS feat GYEDU BLAY AMBOLLEY Mango Woman Agogo Austria

Mango Woman' is fresh a 7" by the German duo Mo' Horizons, known for their eclectic mix of downtempo, funk, soul, jazz, Latin, and African music. Prominently featuring the vocals of Gyedu-Blay Ambolley - an enduring pioneer of Ghanaian highlife, and debatably considered by some to be one of the forefathers of rap music - this is a sultry affair, charting up-close, boomy vocals and well-rounded percussion choices. Vintage Latin music artist Sono Rhizmo helms up the remix on the B-side, providing a carefully uptempo take on the track.

Rare and highly sought after in its original format, Os Brazōes self-titled album was originally released on RGE Discos in 1969. It is a psychedelic masterpiece that fuses samba, r’n’b and rock ’n’ roll influences using fuzz guitars, synths, percussion, lush vocals and effects.Os Brazōes formed in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1960’s. They supported Tom Zé and backed Gal Costa during her Tropicalia period, yet apparently never recorded in the studio with her. The album is peppered with alternative versions of songs by the movement’s stars, including Gilberto Gil’s ‘Pega a Voga, Cabeludo’ and Jorge Ben and Toquinho’s ‘Carolina, Carol Bela’. But Os Brazões manage to make them their own with their unique interpretations. It’s on their own songs that Os Brazões really shine. Their wide sonic palette presents the listener with moments of dense beauty, experimentation and some serious funk. Exploring this mix of covers and self-penned songs, you get a genuine feeling for the influences, tastes and direction of the band. Os Brazões produced a classic of the Tropicalia movement and it’s a record that probably deserves to be ranked alongside Os Mutantes’ early output. The Mr Bongo RSD Black Friday Edition features original artwork and orange splatter vinyl.
Steam Down’s founder Ahnansé and Mambo Negro Records founder Daniel Michel lead a groundbreaking British-Colombian ensemble on their captivating debut album release, Mestizo.Across languages and disparate cultures, music is the connecting bridge. Through interweaving melodic traditions, rhythms and distinct instruments, a new dialogue can be created – an open improvisation between kindred spirits. For the past four years, British-Caribbean bandleader and saxophonist Ahnansé and Colombian label head and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Michel have been building that musical bridge between their two worlds, creating a beguiling new interpretation of Colombian folk traditions, London jazz and hip-hop. The culmination of their efforts now comes in their uniquely energetic self-titled debut album, Mestizo, released on Mais Um on 5 May 2023
Acid Jazz Records continue their exclusive licensing agreement with Albarika Store, the legendary record label that defined the sound of Benin and influenced the entire region of West Africa and beyond.'Kpede Do Gbe Houenou’ is a burning piece of Afro-funk from Benin’s finest, the all-conquering Orchestre Poly-Rythmo. With a killer horns line, imploring vocals and a driving groove, this has it all and is just waiting to ignite reopened dancefloors. 'Ma Wa Mon Nou Mi O’ is equally strong, if a little less intense, and features wonderful guitar work to the fore. Without question, this is essential Beninese music. Both tracks were transferred, restored and mastered from the original 1/4 inch tape.
La Brésilienne Flavia Coelho, devenue Parisienne, sort son quatrième album. Avec DNA, son disque le plus personnel, elle aborde notamment la situation politique de son pays natal après l’arrivée au pouvoir de Jair Bolsonaro.
Finally, a much-needed re-issue of Luiz Eça's Mexican only Brazilian release 'La Nueva Onda De Brasil' on ViNiLiSSSiMO Records, re-issued in the mid-2000s, it's long been out of print. The album features a whole host of Brazilian greats such as Joyce, Wilson Simonal, and Naná Vasconcelos. A highly recommended Brazilian masterpiece!
