Naima (Record Store Day RSD 2021)
Major Keys

The Major Keys label takes classic album tracks and gives them the respect they deserve across their own 12" pressings. And few musicians deserve such special treatment as John Coltrane, who follows on from an early release on this imprint from Herbie Hancock. Now, the king known as Trane has his gorgeous 'Naima' served up in all its tender glory. On the flip is the much more uptempo and energetic 'My Favourite Things' with all its expressive and squealing trumpet leads and busy drums. Both come on this heavyweight slice of wax, exclusively for Record Store Day 2021.

Responding to their environment, Amara’s sound is greatly influenced by the cold and dark months of autumn and winter in Glasgow, a city which can be unrelenting in its greyness. It is a product of that. After sifting through hundreds, perhaps thousands, of hours of recordings, a narrative slowly formed and Amara began to revisit some ideas. It is these ideas that make up this album. The album is the narrative.Amara was formed from a jam, and the music in this album came from many months of improvisation. At gigs, at rehearsals, out and about on the streets, Amara would freely improvise with one another, weaving themselves and their spirits together so that, no longer individuals, the musicians became one.
Guitarist and Producer Godriguez (producer of Sampa the Great's “The Great Mixtape") marshalled together some of the best musicians of the new generation in Sydney: A head priest of the Cuban Ifa religion, the step-son of Australia’s greatest ever funk and soul musician, Australia's leading drummer in this new generation and a deeply emotionally gifted pianist from New Zealand. These disparate backgrounds culminate with incredibly sensitive musical and emotional connections to form GODTET.Godtet is back with his third LP, and one which he calls possibly the finest distillation of his sound yet. Across eight tracks he fuses sounds from around the world that show another organic evolution and draw on three years of gigging, playing and recording music. The record was made with no samples and was wholly improvised and is said to be the final part of a trilogy. The beats are dark and intense at times, but can just as easily be feather light and superbly spacious, such as on the gorgeous 'Sun.' Though these tracks are short, they really are very sweet.
Don't sleep on those contagious grooves!!!
