Coming to the table with a fresh mutant sound, Darker Than Wax is proud to welcome Leeds-based artist Captain Over to our sonic universe with his Deep Blue EP. A solo project from one of the minds behind the band Paper Tiger, Captain Over represents a firm focus on dancefloor experimentation, blending the sounds of grime, broken beat, house, and LA beat music to create an entirely new beast. Much like the chess-playing supercomputer of the same name, ‘Deep Blue’ occupies a space between electronic weight and the human touch, fusing together icy digital synths borrowed from grime with off- kilter grooves and jazzy motifs.Following a string of releases led by vocal tracks with grime MCs, ‘Deep Blue’ is the first fully instrumental offering from Captain Over, lending the artist a platform to make a strong statement about his creative vision and technical prowess. From the expansive arrangement of ‘4D’ to the duelling sci-fi synths on ‘Mind’s Eye’, the Deep Blue EP is a deeply creative yet functional record, signalling a bright future for the Captain Over project.

Bas Bron aka Fatima Yamaha follows up 2015's Imaginary lines. Refusing to conform, he’s continued to work in his own way, creating tunes and assigning them to an alias based on how they feel. Spontaneous Order again. Recorded over several years, ‘Spontaneous Order’ is an odyssey that remains in touch with its creator’s long held love of P-Funk, Detroit and Chicago House, but takes on additional dimensions too.

The man occasionally known as Deadboy returns to Trule with more far-out garage subversions in the form of 'Callers Spring'. Sitting somewhere between techno, dub, UKG and deconstructed jungle, the title track sets the scene with its well-oiled, slippery beats and rising sub pressure. It's backed up by the brilliant 23rd century jazz of 'Grounding', the Isolee-meets-Carl Craig style spirals and sense of space on 'Saraph' before 'Doxa' closes the EP with a sparse minimal adieu that sits somewhere between Basic Channel and Zed Bias. Cult Berber musician Hocine Chaoui is a musical whirlwind, a tornado that sucks up and spits out electronic, folk, rock, world, afro, tribal, trance, electro and country music at high speed. This is a remastered version of his Ouechesma album which was drawn from Oriental Music Production's archive of regional Algerian cassettes. It was made on traditional instruments with his own unique vocal chants and a glut of mad effects and drum machines. The beats are incessant, dense, physical. The vocals add another layer of intensity and the whole thing is as wild and crazy as it sounds.
