Official Mr Bongo reissue. Replica original artwork.Mr Bongo brings another Brazilian rarity to the masses with this sublime reissue of Tim Maia’s Disco Club. Recorded in 1978, it’s a latter-period gem from the larger than life legend, combining the glitz and glamour of disco’s heyday with Maia’s raw funk and soul roots.
Organ-driven Afro-beat, cosmic Afro-funk and raw, psychedelic boogie … just some of the flavours to be found on this highly danceable compilation by Samy Ben Redjeb, founder of Analog Africa. No effort has been spared! To document these 15 irresistible tracks and the music scene from the'70s, Samy crisscrossed the lengths of Ghana and Togo in search of the producers and artists - or their relatives. In the process he recorded a dozen interviews, scanned 90 pictures and transferred 120 master tapes. All the evidence can be seen in the 44-page full colour booklet accompanying these 75 minutes of heavy West African sounds. Afro-Beat Airways showcases an amazing diversity of local rhythms spiced with Afro-American funk, soul and jazz.
First official vinyl release of Freddie Hubbard's seminal and highly revered 1973 Concert recorded in Paris at the prestigious Maison de la Radio. Released in collaboration with INA in Paris (National Radio Archives) and Duane Hubbard. Including audio remastered by Colorsound, gatefold artwork designed by Raimund Wong plus liner notes by journalist Kevin Le Gendre (Echoes, BBC Radio 3, Jazzwise)
A Nigerian Hypnotich Afro Funk Lp originally released under licence from Love Records to Fontana Records (Nigeria) in 1977 !The record was produced by the twenty years old Alex Tony Okoroji at the legendary ARC Studios in Lagos, a facility set-up by Ginger Baker. This is the third production for the Alex Tony Okoroji’s fledgling independent label Love Records, the previous record was the pioneering release by Udu - Sound of the People (Love Records, Nigeria 1976) also reissued by Dig This Way in 2020. Musically these two records are poles apart but similar in as much as both the band and producer present a personal musical vision that sounds nothing like their piers’ at the time…
