PRINS THOMAS D (Hieroglyphic Being remixes) Smalltown Supersound Norway

Given the sprawl and epic that was the recent Principe Del Norte album from Prins Thomas, it is no surprise Smalltown Supersound have opted to think big for this subsequent remix 12" series. The Orb, Sun Araw, Young Marco, I:Cube, Ricardo Villalobos and Hieroglyphic Being are all on board to remix the Scandolearic pioneer for a short-lived series spread across two vinyl releases. Hieroglyphic Being kicks matters off with a pair of remixes of "D", whose original 14 minutes made for one of the highlights of the album. In the hands of Jamal Moss, the track doesn't transform into the corrosive monster you might expect though little of the original remains intact. The accompanying Beat Rework buries PT's original krauty melodics deep below a killer barrage of drums and is our favourite of the two HB versions.

Lamentations is the debut EP by foundational cold light member Birthmark.Part late night confessional part post rave revelations part call to arms, Birthmark dissects the nuance of of modern life & the grey area in his inimitable style, never afraid to delve into topics that many brush under the carpet.Sonically taking as many cues from from 90's British Techno, Dub, J-Pop & David Lynch soundtracks as the grimey raps he grew up on, he conjures a pallate that fully embraces the duality of living in a place where you never quite seem to fit in.Honestly i cannot say enough good things about this record, the initial demo's were what pushed me to start Cold Light, it feels like it has always been a part of my life.“… Its not up to others to decide what kind of human being you are, you have to find the confidence to show people - this is who I am”

As the sweary, confrontational title suggests, this four-tracker from Detroit hero Omar-S is like a musical expansion pack for his much-discussed recent album, F*ck Resident Advisor. The no-nonsense Detroiter starts in fine fashion with 'Gonna Love You', a jaunty, piano-sporting peak-time loop jam crafted from old school vocal samples and snippets from a killer disco record, before reaching for cosmic synth sounds, lilting melodies and a melancholic mood on the starry deep house jam 'Bread Over Bed'. He subtly doffs a cap to Dance Mania style ghetto-house on the quirky, club-ready cheekiness of 'Shut Up', before smothering a classic house groove with heady hand percussion and snaking synth lines on dense and energetic closing cut 'Sloppy Joe'.
In 2006 the now defunct BaseLogic label released the first in a triad of EP's entitled 'Fixxy', produced by the enigmatic British artist Ed Chamberlain. These EPs left many electronic music lovers scratching their heads, having heard something genuinely different. It represented a new generation of IDM reminiscent of The Black Dog or Plaid, melancholic electro with a meticulous nuanced palate that immediately transformed Chamberlain into a revered figure.Fifteen years on Lapsus Records, as part of its 'Perennial' series, will release Ed Chamberlain’s superlative productions across 2x12", entitled '03/06'. The lavish 12” double pack will feature a sizeable part of the ‘Fixxy’ material, along with additional tracks created during the same period of time, 2003 – 2006, including 'Zarathustra' and 'Does Ape' –the latter released on vinyl in 2008 by Madrid label Semantica–. For this special release all tracks have been re-mastered and will be pressed and packaged in a deluxe edition format.
