Maurizio Abate - Loneliness, Desire And Revenge - Black Sweat Records - Rock Folk - 2015 - Italy - Le Discopathe - Montpellier

Maurizio Abate is usually found making experimental albums of a psychedelic nature with the recording process being just part of the music’s ever-evolving journey. With his latest work he has decided to abandon all that and make Loneliness, Desire and Revenge: a stripped back acoustic guitar album that reflects Abate’s mood. Unlike his previous work, this contains more-or-less the definitive versions of the songs. His relationship with the acoustic guitar was inspired by the film In Search of Blind Joe Death: The Saga of John Fahey, which he arranged several screenings of in his native Italy.

A record-book proposition:- A 7inch vinyl record by Terakaft, produced by Justin Adams (Robert Plant, Brian Eno, Tinariwen…)- A novel by Philippe Brix written in English and French.Welcome to the fascinating world of Terakaft, one of the most legendary bands from the acclaimed Desert Blues / Tuareg Rock scene that’s been nurturing in the Sahara desert for the last two decades.A world made of light, dust, goats, tree shadows, gas, tea and fire.A world where teenagers don’t dream of being footballers but guitarists like Ibrahim of Tinariwen, like Sanou of Terakaft, or like Ousmane of Tamikrest.A world made of constant stuggles, of war zones, where getting a visa to tour is nearly impossible, where covering your face and head with tuareg turbans to face the desert winds will turn you into a potential islamist when boarding an airplane.A world that Philipe Brix knows damn well: he’s been managing those guitar heroes for the last two decades. 'Jagwar' is his coming-of-age story, a tale of resilience, of doom, of family, of utmost tensions and unrivaled peace, the adventure of a life time. His journey will take you from the deepest deserts of Mali, Morocco and Mauritania to the biggest music festivals all accross Europe and America.
It’s spring again, and this uplifting little masterpiece may just be the perfect soundtrack for it: Looks Like You’ve Already Won (MA 64) – the long awaited second album from Boston’s pop duo Ashby, following up their critically acclaimed 2001 debut Power Ballads (“Luxurious, intelligent pop” – Q Magazine).Ashby have expanded their sound quite significantly – with intricate multi-layered arrangements, a shimmering widescreen production and great contributions from an array of guest musicians, incl. Brazilian arranger Zé Luis (Bebel Gilberto, Brazilian Girls). The album’s ten tracks were recorded in Boston, New York City and Los Angeles.Richly layered horn arrangements are a trademark throughout the album courtesy of New York City wunderkind arranger Jeremy Adelman. The atmospheric instrumentation is offset by hard hitting funky drums played by multi-instrumentalist Bill Cowie, one half of the duo. The icing on the cake is Evelyn Pope’s pure, understated and floating voice that somehow manages to sound light and deep at the same time. And Ashby’s greatest signature are, of course, still simply beautiful melodies.Check it out, folks! And you’ve already won…
A Colourful Storm presents Tangerine, a collection of songs by Reiko and Tori Kudo. Recorded at Village Hototoguiss, Japan, in 2011 and 2012 and Cafe Oto, London, in 2009, Tangerine is the result of over thirty years of improvisation and intimacy between Reiko Kudo and Tori Kudo (Maher Shalal Hash Baz, Fushitsusha, Noise, Ché-SHIZU). Their live performances would welcome local musicians, neighbourhood children, friends and passersby on stage while in the studio, they have been joined by Ikuro Takahashi (LSD March) and Takashi Ueno (Tenniscoats), releasing on indie labels such as Geographic and K. A touchstone of contemporary Japanese folk minimalism and significantly the last recorded appearance of the duo. Originally released on CD by Hyotan in 2013 and presented for the first time on vinyl by A Colourful Storm. Full-colour sleeve with insert, postcard and lyrics in Japanese and English.
