Stevie Wonder is one of America's most beloved icons and an undeniable genius, not only of R&B, but of pop music in general. Blind practically since birth, Wonder created vibrant, colorful music bursting with life and ambition thanks to his keen sonic awareness.Almost everything he recorded bore the stamp of his sunny, cheerful positivity; even when he addressed serious topics like racism or social and spiritual issues (which he did quite often in his heyday) or sang about heartbreak and romantic uncertainty, there always seemed to be an underlying sense of optimism and hope.In The Many Faces of Stevie Wonder, we'll explore both his addition to our Many Faces collection. Following the release of his deliciously dreamy, ambient house inspired album on Pacific Rhythm, Private Paradise, Sudi 'Space Ghost' Wachspress has invited a wealth of producers to remix tracks from his more classic deep house-sounding 2021 album, Dance Planet. Dirk81 delivers a wonderfully jazzy, breezy and sun-kissed, breakbeat driven revision of 'Deep' - very turn-of-the-'90s sounding - before we're treated to two takes on 'Be Yourself': a chunky, thickset, lightly New Jersey influenced Central rework primed for early morning plays, and a Jarren version that sounds like an old Ben Cerac Dream 2 Science jam. Over on the flip, you'll find two revisions of 'Emotional Healer' - Wachspress's own bouncy, New Jersey Garage-meets-early '90s piano house 'Dance Mix', and a scene-stealing steppers-inspired dub re-imagining from mysterious Italian artist Nelson of the East.

There's naturally much to enjoy on the latest volume in Africa Seven's A7 Edits series, which pairs original - and usually obscure - old Afro-disco and Afro-boogie gems with fresh 21st century edits. This time round, the A-side is all about Kemayo & K System's piano and horn-heavy disco-funk jam 'Biram', a two-minute blast of dancefloor exuberance that Phillip Lauer cleverly re-imagines as loopy, locked-in chunk of Afro-disco/disco house fusion. Over on the flip there's a chance to savour Afro National's heavy, low-slung stomper 'Push Forward', a cut that brilliantly adds chanted vocals and Hendrix style guitar solos to a sweaty, non-stop groove. Al Zanders does a great job in ratcheting up the tension and heaviness on his accompanying club-ready extension.
