It’s spring again, and this uplifting little masterpiece may just be the perfect soundtrack for it: Looks Like You’ve Already Won (MA 64) – the long awaited second album from Boston’s pop duo Ashby, following up their critically acclaimed 2001 debut Power Ballads (“Luxurious, intelligent pop” – Q Magazine).Ashby have expanded their sound quite significantly – with intricate multi-layered arrangements, a shimmering widescreen production and great contributions from an array of guest musicians, incl. Brazilian arranger Zé Luis (Bebel Gilberto, Brazilian Girls). The album’s ten tracks were recorded in Boston, New York City and Los Angeles.Richly layered horn arrangements are a trademark throughout the album courtesy of New York City wunderkind arranger Jeremy Adelman. The atmospheric instrumentation is offset by hard hitting funky drums played by multi-instrumentalist Bill Cowie, one half of the duo. The icing on the cake is Evelyn Pope’s pure, understated and floating voice that somehow manages to sound light and deep at the same time.And Ashby’s greatest signature are, of course, still simply beautiful melodies.Check it out, folks! Los Lobos revient avec des reprises des groupes mythiques de Los Angeles !Le groupe Los Lobos, de Los Angeles, a toujours été inspiré par son environnement et l'endroit où il se trouve.Leur musique est influencée par le rock and roll, le Tex-Mex, la country, le zydeco, le folk, le R&B, le blues, labrown-eyed soul et la musique traditionnelle comme la cumbia, les boleros et les nortenos. Avec Native Sons, legroupe a voulu mettre en valeur toutes ces influences avec sa propre version des chansons de Los Angelesécrites par certains des plus grands auteurs-compositeurs de la ville. Native Sons comprend 13 chansonsd'artistes de Los Angeles bien connus comme Buffalo Springfield, WAR, Jackson Browne et les Beach Boys,ainsi que des morceaux profonds des Jaguars, des Basters et des Premiers. Le titre éponyme est la seulecomposition originale écrite par le groupe.

41 years after its original release, it's hard to grasp just how revolutionary the New Age Steppers self-titled debut album was. The brainchild of the Slits' Ari Up and producer Adrian Sherwood, the set brought paired the cream of the post-punk scene (including the Pop Group's Mark Stewart and journalist Vivian Goldman) with a string of experienced dub-wise players to create a set that genuinely took dub and roots reggae in thrilling new directions (think alien noises, industrial sounds, experimental effects and squally guitar textures). Now available on vinyl for the first time since its original release, New Age Steppers is an album that should genuinely be in every serious music-head's collection.

Reissue of the highly sought after Nigerian funk-rock album, moving effortlessly between reggae, jazzy afrobeat and psych rock.Soundway fans first got a taste of Jay-U’s infectious beats with the track ‘Some More’, featured on the Soundway compilation “Nigeria Disco Funk Special: The Sound Of The Underground Lagos Dancefloor 1974-79”.Originally released by EMI Nigeria in 1977, this now-rare album was written by Jay-U and engineered by disco-boogie artist Goddy Oku. Opening with the up-tempo reggae number “Reggae Deluxe”, the album descends into mind-blowing jazz-funk featuring several killer saxophone solos. The journey ends with a trip into psych-prog rock, with a sound not dissimilar to that coming out of the early 70s British rock scene.
