International Anthem Recording Company are on a roll with this powerful, spiritual vocal jazz on the most amazing rhythm! Backed with a stripped back drums version. Massive recommendation from us!
Linda FREDRIKSSONJuniperWe Jazz FinlandLinda Fredriksson (they/them) shares their debut solo album "Juniper" on We Jazz Records, 29 Oct 2021. Linda (of Mopo and Superposition) has been working on the compositions heard on the album for several years, composing them mostly on guitar, keys and by singing. Only later have they been arranged for the band heard on the album, including Fredriksson on saxes and various instruments, Tuomo Prättälä (of ilmiliekki Quartet) on rhodes, moog and piano, Minna Koivisto on modular synth, moog and OP, Olavi Louhivuori (of Superposition) on drums, and Mikael Saastamoinen (of OK:KO and Superposition) on bass, plus featuring the Swedish artist Matti Bye on piano.
Estonian producer Misha Paniflov's Sound Combo crew have been impressive ever since their debut. Their second album, 2020's Days As Echoes, was another brilliantly psyched-out. modal and space age fusion of easy listening, jazz and soul that gets your head amongst the clouds. Bird calls, warming summer breezes and gorgeous wind instruments all make this a lush, mellifluous listening experience that soars to grand heights with life affirming positivity and feel good optimism to spare. A true modern classic.
"The dampness of the rainforest, the hostility of the mangrove ultimately did not suit him. So he left his natural environment for the tranquillity of a freshwater body". So goes the (translated) back story of this new EP from Laurent Bardainne. The 'he' in question is a Tiger who ventured across Europe, Asia and America and apparently picked up various musical styles along the way. Whatever you make of that, the tracks here are gold: "Marvin" is smooth jazz fusion with percolating drums, "Porsche 944" has a joyous lead sax and more crisp boom bap drums, while "Aout" is a soaring bit of heartfelt soul Daptone might put out. The Drop Vibes rework of "Porsche 944" features a vocal roller and closes things in fine fashion.
