MISHA PANFILOV SEPTET Gala! Funk Night US Vinyle Montpellier Jazz Groove Bar

This new record from Misha Panfilov came after just two days rehearsing and recording time. That pressure and restriction has got the very best work out of him as these four new compositions are offered up in expanded formation on Gala and make for the musicians most soulful and intimate sounds yet. He played them in a large hall with the septet painting grand musical structures that draw on all sorts of jazz. Say Misha Panfilov of the process, "While observing the condition of the experiment, this group enters energy fields of cosmic balance. The mellow framework allows music to unfold and fill you up with harmony, beauty, love, and respect." They're not wrong, too.

His monumental LP of solo soprano saxophone improvisations, recorded direct-cut and issued by Incus in 1978.Lovingly reissued by Treader — the CD is from PSI — using the original stampers, in a gorgeous hand-assembled sleeve, with glossy front and matt back, flaps out.Unmissable.‘Parker uses rapid tonguing techniques and circular breathing to create a sound all his own, marked by the simultaneous intonation of multiple notes. One hears a note as well as all the residual tones around it; each breath ends up sounding like a battle between the different registers of the horn. At various times, Parker’s saxophone sounds like dolphin speech, electronic tape squeals, or human murmurs; namely, anything but what it actually is. His language on the instrument is essential listening for anyone interested in acoustic experimental music’ (AllMusic).‘Eight years after Topography Of The Lungs, and two years after his Saxophone Solos, Monoceros was the most muscular statement of Evan Parker’s solo saxophone muse. Superbly recorded, it seemed to place the listener within the chaotic air flows of the saxophone’s own tubing. Philip Clark said: ‘Parker’s dialogue with the saxophone throws up so much that is unexpected, and indeed unknowable, that the problem he faces is how to keep pace with his own invention’’ (The Wire, Best Albums Of The Year).
Sweet album of cool & bebop jazz...
ROBERT WYATT before his successful solo career was the original drummer/vocalist for SOFT MACHINE.This EP was recorded on a 4 track at WYATT'S house in the summer of 1992.All instruments and vocals are by ROBERT.A Short Break is a musical scrapbook.A glimpse of half thought ideas, and hints of melody and atmospheres.Armed with a lone piano,a set of symbols,an organ, some basic percussion, and his plaintive voice,WYATT'S pieces are melancholy, sad, and contemplative. An essential purchase if you re a true fan.
A decade after it first surfaced on CD and digital, Kaidi Tatham's superb contribution to Jazz:Refreshed's now legendary 5ive series of mini-albums has finally made it onto vinyl. We don't expect these to hang around in stock too long, in part because it's one of the most consistently on-point and musically expansive sets in Tatham's vast catalogue - and that's saying something. For proof, check the soulful bruk-up business of 'To My Surprise' (reminiscent of the best of the collective Bugz in the Attic project he was a big part of), the fluid, spiritual jazz-funk brilliance of opener 'Don't Hide Your Love' and the expansive, up-tempo excellence of 'Organic Juggernaut', where fluttering flutes, squelchy bass and sparkling pianos catch the ear.
