BRAHJA présente Watermelancholia produit par le label Cortizona. Un opus free Jazz Spiritual Jazz dans la plus pur traditions des expériences sonores des 70's

New York saxophonist, drummer, synthesizer player and composer Devin Brahja Waldman leads his Brahja group to great new heights on this album. It's a record of deeply spiritual atmospheres and impulsive grooves that bring to mind the likes of Art Ensemble of Chicago or even Max Roach. The music meditates on the tension between the sense of self and the inner being and has you deep in reflective thought as these top-notch musicians serve up a cosmic trip that is searching for answers. A superb album by any measure.

After his first adventure in the endless universe of instrumental music where he made known “Man With a Plan” in 2018, Minus & MRDolly now presents the new EP Broken Hearts Make Broken Beats. This new work is the result of a recording session at the Groove-Wood studios promoted by João André - who mixes two of the three originals of the EP - to which Hugo Danin joined on drums and Sérgio Alves on keyboards and electric piano. In trio, Minus, Hugo and Sérgio rearranged and explored the original sketches, previously composed by Minus & MRDolly.Floating, or as if to say, with one “foot inside and the other outside” of his so familiar home that is Hip Hop, “BHMBB” is the reflection of some musical references previous to that house, where “Britfunk” or “Broken Beat” serves as an example. This EP intends to marry the acoustic character of the interpretation with the aesthetic and electronic universe of dance music.“Salame”, “The Break” and “A Thousand Miles”, the three originals that make up the EP Broken Hearts Make Broken Beats, also count on the participation of percussionists Manu Idhra and Rui Ferreira, the voice of Mary Raisekings, and the Pardal saxophone. The theme "The Break" has remixes by Pedro and Max Graef.
One year after Leifur James released his debut album A Louder Silence; on 5th October 2018, he returns with a remix EP featuring a slew of the finest musicians in electronic music today.Bruce coming off the back of his hugely well received debut album for Hessle Audio has a “resymph” of Osho in typical mind-bending austere electronic style. Whities producer and Tirzah/Mica Levi collaborator Coby Sey reconstructs Suns of Gold with his sampler. Blueberry Records founder FaltyDL aka Drew Lustman contributes a deep, skipping 2-stepping reversion of Mumma Don’t Tell. Auntie Flo AKA Brian d’Souza flexes his world-club fusion on a shimmering remix of Salaninam. And London cellist, composer and Radiohead regular collaborator Oliver Coates reshapes Red Sea into a swirling post-rock noise, leading into a jazz-chamber music outro. The 4 most DJ friendly cuts from FaltyDL, Bruce, Coby Sey and Leifur’s own remix will also be released as a highly limited edition 12”. 300 vinyls are being pressed up. In total, it’s a refreshingly diverse and creative collection of new approaches to Leifur’s source material.
A timeless classic. Wicked funky jazz from the Black Jazz label's keyboard great, featuring strident vocals from Doug's wife Jean Carn, predating her Philly disco era!
2020. Full On Lockdown: Musician Laurence Mason puts together this off the wall idea meshing together two of his biggest musical heroes, Dave Greenfield of the tough 1970's proto-punk band The Stranglers with the oh so cool 1960's jazz of Dave Brubeck. He puts up his demo on Youtube not really expecting much in the way of feedback. And gets ONE MILLION hits. And hundreds of requests for a release. Jazz Room Records Head Honcho Paul Murphy says “Do you wanna record that and release it?”."Affirmative!" The result is this grooving Soulful and Funky Jazz version of “Golden Brown”. We're rush releasing this as when announced we were swamped with requests asking when it will be available. On the “B” side is a languid and super cool version of “Walking On The Moon”, originally by 80's Supergroup The Police. This is just a taster for what we're confident will be a must have album to be readied for 2021 release. Each Vinyl comes complete with The Take Vibe E.P. Cut Out and Keep Fully Customizable Front Cover Sticker Sheet.
First ever vinyl reissue of this highly sought after French experimental jazz recording by the legendary Jef Gilson. In 1971, the day after the death of Igor Stravinsky, Jef Gilson and his Unit (Pierre Moret and Jean-Claude Pourtier) made this curious homage to classical music. It is jazz, contemporary and electroacoustic music that the trio interrogate through a wild ‘noise’ session evoking as much John Cage as Pierre Henry, John Coltrane as the Percussions de Strasbourg, the Art Ensemble of Chicago as the Tacet by Jean Guérin.Le Massacre du Printemps, (the Massacre of Spring) is a strange kind of homage to Igor Stravinsky, who had just died when, in 1971, Jef Gilson recorded this not-to-be-missed album of French experimental jazz. “Too many pieces of music finish too long after the end” the Russian composer was quoted as saying and here is Gilson offering us... six!A funny bird (of fire) was Jef Gilson. Clarinetist who came up playing in the basement clubs with Claude Luter and Boris Vian, he turned to piano and multiplied his experiences in jazz: bebop, choral, modal, free, fusion... As a free spirit, Gilson welcomed many ‘up and coming’ French musicians in his bands (Jean-Luc Ponty, Bernard Lubat, Michel Portal, Henri Texier...) as well as being associated with Woody Shaw, Nathan Davis or Byard Lancaster. Later he would go on to create, Europamerica, a transatlantic formation in which Butch Morris, Frank Lowe, and Joe McPhee would play...But for the time being it’s a massacre! With Pierre Moret on organ and Jean-Claude Pourtier on drums, Gilson improvises with style and gusto. On the eponymous title track of the album, he also plays tuba and invites Claude Jeanmaire to get involved on prepared piano. Spring, for the four musicians here, is windswept: billowing, rumbling, frantic, it sounds like Stravinsky played by the ‘Percussions de Strasbourg’ without a scoresheet! After which, behind his electric piano, Gilson with Moret and Pourtier offers us five more “unpremeditated spontaneous expressions”, as he wrote on the back of the album sleeve. Five wily and electric expressions which are like the soundtrack to a film which could also have been played by the Art Ensemble or Jean Guérin. So, when, in the same text, Gilson expresses the hope that we will get “from this album the same pleasure that we had making it”, we can but reply: how could it be otherwise?
