Bunn Debrett Quintet disponible au Discopathe à Montpellier !

Yes, after far too long a wait caused by raw materials supply issues the 180 gramme heavy vinyl
copies of Bunn Debrett Quintet vol. 2 are now available from Bandcamp and Sound of the
Universe alongside the digital versions.
Bunn DeBrett Quintet is back with volume 2 of the eponymous album series of contemporary Jazz.
Following on from the success of the critically acclaimed first album released in 2021 which sold
out its vinyl run, volume 2 builds on the artistic and creative expressions of Volume 1 to bring
together a group of artists to perform on Stephen Bunn and Jon DeBrett's compositions.
Once again featuring the core musicians of Stephen and Jon along with Neil Corcoran, Alan Barnes
and Roger Beujolais and the stunning spoken word vocals of Tenesha the Wordsmith BDQ vol. 2
also benefits from the contributions of instrumentalists Nathan Haines, Crispin Taylor, Alastair
Martin and the poetry of Daniel B. Summerhill.
Across the five tracks of this album this stellar line-up of musicians, composers and artists have a
created just under 40 minutes of the most fluid and fluent contemporary Jazz you will hear in
many a year. Combining the spiritual with the modal and the modern, the atmosphere of this
album will capture, enchant and enrapture all true music fans and those whose boundaries are
blurred as to be non-existent. This truly is an album that falls into the 'must have' and 'you need
this' categories.
Bunn DeBrett Quintet, owes much to London Transport's 94 Night Bus.
Drummer and percussionist Stephen (Bunny) Bunn and guitarist and keys player Jon DeBrett first
collaborated as founding members of 90's Acid Jazz Records signed act Mother Earth. With
further partnerships as remixers, producers and DJs the pair called it quits on the music industry
sometime around the turn of the millennium. In 2019 they bumped into each other at the world
famous 100 Club in London's Oxford Street at a gig featuring a new incarnation of Mother Earth
with Matt Deighton from the original line-up. The first BDQ album came from the conversations
that Stephen and Jon had that night. Indeed it was on the 94 Bus back to Acton (West London) the
Bunny decided that he and Jon DeBrett should make music again. As little as a few weeks later
they were back in the studio and after the success of BDQ we now have the joy of listening to BDQ
2.

Social Joy Records presents Natural Lateral's new album "Tapestry of life", a superb excursion in fusion jazz with a wonderful blend of electronics and subtle elements of spiritual Jazz.Undeniably on the rise after the success of their first album, "Cogito Ergo Jam", which received support from the British Jazz scene and was featured on Gilles Peterson’s BB6 broadcast, the North London Based collective goes a step further this time by carefully crafting a new release of a tapestry of music stemming from rich jam sessions at the Lazy Robot Studio and representing the band's phenomenal musical canvas. Echoing jazz legends like Azymuth, Roy Ayers, Alice Coltrane and Miles Davis by paying tribute to those who paved the way but always searching for new musical territories, this six-track LP is moving, thought-provoking and engaging. It is a musical questing where each band member searches for meaning through sounds and rhythms - giving a new life to Jazz music and dropping the full spectrum of a vibrant tapestry of life into the listener's ears. The release moves through elements of vintage, yet also involves sophisticated sound production fusing Jazz with modern dance and world music sensibilities.
Danish drummer and composer Terkel Nørgaard presents his group consisting of some of the key players in the Copenhagen scene and adding ECM-recording American star trumpeter Ralph Alessi on the lineup. Not merely a "feature", Alessi and the Danes form a coherent band unit capable of producing memorable and highly inspired contemporary jazz which links to the Nordic tradition of dynamic sound ranging from delicate minimalism to powerful avantgarde eruptions. The album Terkel Nørgaard "With Ralph Alessi" will be out via Helsinki's We Jazz Records on May 17.Culled from a total body of work including 21 sketches, the album presents a solid selection of seven compositions which place Nørgaard at the forefront of the current Nordic jazz scene. On the new album, the Danish trio plus Alessi achieve something that can always be regarded a remarkable feat. They deliver a highly inspired set of music which links the album onto the ever-evolving lineage of jazz music, and at the same time introduce a new band capable of stunning the listener in the here and now.
Tramp Records continues their pilgrimage to the soulful fringes of spiritual jazz and progressive rock and funk with their 3rd and 4th volumes of their "Peace Chant, Raw, Deep and Spiritual Jazz" series, and the world could not be more ready. As we turn together on this tiny blue ball hanging lonely in space, and as we together face existential threats ranging from climate catastrophe, the rise of brutal authoritarian regimes, the breaking of the industrial storm and the imminent collapse of empire, not to mention the raging covid-19 crisis and the continuing racial and social struggles across the globe, we are thrust into a society-wide grand awakening that has been in the making for a very long time. Of course, our musical teachers have trod this path before us, and have worked out solutions to these problems, the songs of the Peace Chant series ring out loud and clear as our ancestors' proof of concept. They say history repeats herself, maybe it's because we weren't listening the first time. Thanks to Tramp Records, we have been granted another opportunity.Today, the musical and spiritual truths enshrined within the spiritual jazz diaspora seem to be more and more sought-after, and crucial at a time when we as a society seek higher and farther for those bold truths. With each generation, that truth doesn't change, and the artists featured in the series speak those truths along a continuum that ranges from the late-60s up to the present day.Volume 3, the first LP, features artists who use their medium to welcome the return of the sacred feminine as in Lenny Marcus Trio's Mother's Day, and speak on afrocentric themes like Roland Hayes with his heartfelt Africa The Beautiful. Mineral King renders epic orchestral rock while Natural Life takes us even further on a ten-minute epic quest from a progressive fusion head, to searing tabla, into virtuosic guitar jamming and finally dropping into heady fuzz-soaked riffs and free-jazz fusion with their theme song. Rama Dyushambee sings a devotional song about divine source and healing, while Jule Farmer's Muhammad Ali stands strong at the crossroads between black spirituality and black power. Black Is provides a vibey lo-fi flute jazz meditation in their Themes and Variation while The Supa Lowery Brothers provide the requisite hard modal freedom funk.Peace Chant is the center of the mandala, representing the nucleus of the post-bop, modal jazz, avant-garde, transcendental, spiritual, ethnic, and freedom music universe without necessarily suggesting anything immediately identifiable as any of the above. This is the soundtrack to the raising of human consciousness and the salvation of society's very soul.We give thanks to Tramp Records for leading our thirsty hearts to this rich fountain.
