Le Discopathe Montpellier Fun Boy Three

Fun Boy Three was formed by Terry Hall, Lynval Golding and Nevile Staples after leaving The Specials in the Summer of 1981. Taking on a more pop sensibility, the band went on to have 8 hit singles between 1981 and 1983. Tracks including: ‘It Ain’t What You do (It’s the Way That You Do It)’, ‘Our Lips Are Sealed’, a cover of the old Gershwin classic ‘Summertime’ and ‘The Lunatics (Has Taken Over The Asylum)’, which was recently re-recorded by The Specials on their 2019 album Encore.

Soft Machine released their third album Third in 1970. It is a double album with each side of the vinyl consisting of a single long composition. Its music explores the emerging Jazz Fusion of the type present on Miles Davis' Bitches Brew, which was released just a few months earlier.

Fapardokly was an American band from the West Coast. They’re sole self-titled album was effectively a 12 tracks developed by leader Merrell Fankhauser accompanied by a rotation of musicians. Originally released in 1967 on the small imprint UIP, the album is a perfectly fitting lost nugget from the psychedelic era, collecting a series of lysergic pop numbers with solemn orchestration and strong choral vocal efforts. One of the leading tracks – ‘Gone To Pot’ – has an aurea similar to the classic Byrds ‘Eight Miles High’, promoting an extra-sensorial experience all the way.
Italian producer Azzurro 80 makes his debut on Four Flies with a super limited edition 7 inch (300 copies only) that draws its energy from and is inspired by the Italian library scene of the 80s. More specifically, its retro but innovative sonic landscape combines shiny synthesizers and dynamic jazz-funk with pop and television culture.
As he himself explains, the name “Azzurro 80” is meant to refer to a particular shade of light blue: “a worn-out, faded light blue that feels retro and outmoded”, just like the color adjective “azzurro” feels a bit outmoded these days (most people seem to prefer “celeste”). Through his music, he aims to evoke precisely that color, and the nostalgic but comforting combination of sounds that corresponds to it.Side A features AGIP, titled after Italy’s first national oil company (later absorbed by Italian multinational oil and gas company ENI), whose famous logo is a six-legged dog spitting fire. The track transports you to a night-driving scene seen through the eyes of a kid sitting in the back of a family car (i.e., the composer himself back in the 80s), the asphalt roads dimly lit by yellowish street lights surmounted by the fire-spitting canine. Side B opens with ASTROTENSIONE, a cosmic synth-pop journey through a nebula, almost like the sonic depiction of someone touching a fast traveling asteroid, while TELEFONO GIALLO is a tribute to the late 80s Italian true crime and docudrama TV show of the same name.Just let the tunes spin on your turntable and follow Azzurro 80 into his reimagined version of the Italian Eighties.
Listening to the music of Al Doum & Faryds is always like staying in the pristine nature of an exotic island, in the sacred harmony of a New Organic Society; imaging all brothers and sisters singing and dancing in the unity of the brotherhood. This is the message of love and joy that pervade this fourth album. Moving towards accents of jazz ancestry, the Faryds absorb and re-elaborate - with remarkable insights - disparate elements and influences of Electric Jazz of the 70’s (Miles Davis, Dr.John) and Spiritual Jazz (Sun Ra, Pharoah Sanders, Don Cherry), marrying them with the forceful instances of Afro-Free (Pyramids, Alkebu-Lan). The music celebrate a new collective soul, a dancing cathartic ritual with birds, plants and all the animals, together in the circle of devotion. A journey in the total pranic breath.
