"Here is our last mainstream 80es funk project pressed as limited edition on 7” (250 copies)

We are pleased to introduce our last discovery “Ella MAY” born and raised in Sweden.

We are currently working on our forthcoming projects featuring this gorgeous singer who has a grasp on funk, soul & jazz. Her warm and charming tonality spectrum. It makes all the tracks really hot!

The original version is produced and arranged by Ian ASH as an homage to Luther VANDROSS’s mega hit : “Never To Much”.

B side brings a massive remix by renowned French producer MAGOO. He gives this track the sound in the style of the likes of a “D. TRAIN” production. This version gets straight into Modern Funk as if it was pressed on Prelude Records.

Ella-May is a Swedish Singer/songwriter who grew up with a Swedish mother and African American Father. Spending hours on end listening to her parents vinyl collection , she was exposed to a broad spectrum of music. (Soul, funk, disco, reggae, calypso) Artists that has always inspired her among others are Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, Earth wind and fire, Ashford & Simpson. In the early 90s she worked as a backing dancer for both Swedish and international artists (Jazzy B, Papa Dee,among others).
Arriving in the mid 90's while living in London, England, she got discovered during a rehearsal at a local recording studio and got to record on demos. After years in Sweden and now in Switzerland working the live jam stages to find her way back into the singing and songwriting. This opened the doors to per-forming at the Balélec Festival, and Festichaux and many more stages.

An absolutely legendary album from Lebanon by Issam Hajali’s group Ferkat Al Ard, “Oghneya” stands out as one of the great musical gems of the Arab world. A groundbreaking release from 1978 that represents the meeting point of Arab, jazz, folk and Brazilian styles with the talent of Ziad Rahbani, who did the albums arrangements. Filled with a variety of sounds and genres, from Baroque Pop to Psych-Folk to flashes of Bossa Nova, Tropicalia and MPB, “Oghneya” is like if Arthur Verocai took a trip to Beirut in the 70’s to record an album.Sadly there are two tracks from the original release of “Oghneya” that did not make it onto the reissue. “Ghfyara Ghaza” was replaced by the song “Juma’a 6 Hziran.” while “Huloul” was taken off without a replacement. This happened as a precondition from the band for this reissue to happen. We would have loved to include all tracks, but the decision ranged between having either a reissue like the one we put out or no reissue at all. Thus, an easy choice for us.credits
Hot Casa's latest deep dive into the Afro-funk archives takes us to the Democratic Republic of Congo at the turn of the 1970s. It was here, in a nation brimming with post-independence confidence, that a funk band called The Soul Kids briefly burned brightly. This reissue of their impossible to find debut album should be essential listening for anyone interested in West African funk. It contains a mixture of sizzling self-penned instrumentals and inspired cover versions of American funk standards, including a memorable take on Wilson Pickett's cover of Beatles classic "Hey Jude" and two fantastic versions of James Brown's "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag".
Some little scratches but an essential highlife record...
