Luminous Foundation's previous releases, Spontaneous Archives Vols 1 & 2, sparked with mineral fire, like shards of kosmische comet debris burning up in the Earth's atmosphere. Haig Fras is an entirely different affair, a semi- melodic, shimmering drift. Occasionally there’s a sense of oceanic melancholy and throughout an enticing organic beauty. Haig Fras collects a series impressionistic soundings inspired by the subaquatic mountain range of the same name found between Cornwall and Ireland, 95km northwest of the Isles of Scilly. 120 metres deep, with peaks 82 metres high, it’s the subaquatic aspect of the Cornubian batholith, a granite bedrock that erupts as vast tors as far inland as Bodmin and Dartmoor. Its unusual geology and unique flora and fauna – anemones, corals, lobsters, urchins, crinoids and sponges – lend their names to the album's eight tracks.
