Classic Brazilian album from master drummer, Ronald Mesquita, originally released in 1972. Featuring songs by Jorge Ben, Antonio Carlos-Jobim, Gilberto Gil, Edu Lobo and others.Mesquita is probably most well-known for playing with Luis Carlos Vinhas and his 'Bossa Tres' outfit, along with his own group, 'Ronie E A Central Do Brasil', that he formed after his return from the US in the early 1970s. He also played on several songs on Tenorio Jr.'s 'Embalo' album that Mr Bongo recently reissued.The killer track 'Balanca Pema' was very big in the Jazz Dance scene in the 90s and also featured on the Mojo compilation 'Dancefloor Jazz Volume Four'.Madlib sampled 'Balanca Pema' on his Medicine Show Number 2 'Flight to Brazil'.

The Honeyshotz is a band/project put together by Ian Stevens , the bass player from The Getup and The King Rooster as a vehicle to record and perform a collection of songs that were written by himself and also with some of the other musicians involved.The band features Mark Claydon(The Getup / The King Rooster) on drums and percussion and Lee Blackmore (The Getup) on guitar . The man on the keys is Toby kinder from the Gene Drayton Unit and the vocals are taken care of by Sabina Challenger (formerly of The Getup and The Soul Grenades).Mark Norton (The Fantastics/ The Gene Drayton Unit) supplies sax and flute. The songs are very much in the vein of The Brand New Heavies and have that summertime Acid Jazz / Soul Funk Vibe.

Jazz saxophonist Tony Lavorgna, sometimes known as Captain Bad, recorded Chameleon with the St Thomas Jazz Quartet in 1982. The title track is a cover of Herbie Hancock's classic from Head Hunters, given a fresh lick on this superlative album of incredible renditions of long time favourites. Ray Charles' 'Georgia On My Mind', War's 'The World Is A Ghetto' and Dave Brubeck's 'Take The 'A' Train' all get a look in, given a soulful treatment which goes down very smooth indeed. On the strength of these, it's a shame the group never recorded more music together, covers or otherwise.

In fact, you could say City Pop set sail with a champagne smash from Happy End, the freakishly talented subversives who included amongst their ranks Haruomi Hosono and Shigeru Suzuki, both featured on this compilation. As Michael K. Bourdaghs noted in his book, Sayonara Amerika, Sayonara Nippon, this music was, 'Deconstructing the line between imitation and authenticity.' The Gold Experience was the first full-length Prince album to be credited to his unpronounceable symbol, and was released at the most public, heated stage of his battle with the major label industrial complex. With the word “slave” written on one cheek, Prince shined on the opulent ballads “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World” and “Gold” and the defiant single “Eye Hate U,” and the album earned widespread critical acclaim.The Record Store Day 2022 re-release of The Gold Experience is an homage to the rare US-only promo version of the album released in 1995. The two-LP set is pressed onto translucent gold vinyl with a bonus suite of “Eye Hate U” remixes on Side D.

Eddie C's Red Motorbike journeys on with another tasty 7" morsel from the boss himself, this time split with Elado. That is who goes first on the guitar licked, Americana tinged, disco dripped "Hipos" which is a perfect tune for gazing off at a distant sunset as you sway to and fro on an outdoor dance floor. Eddie C's "Crazy Heart" chugs a it harder, with busy melodic phrases riding up and down the scale over chunky drums.
