Following up their 2019 full-length album All The Way This. All The Way That., Freekbass & The Bump Assembly continue to push the limits of their "funk forward" style in Krameria. Recorded just a few months before quarantine at Color Red Studios in Denver, CO, the album's themes present an uncanny timely nature delving into themes of tenacity, escaping one's thoughts, fantasy, and more. With Eddie Roberts tracking and producing the album, you'll find classic production tones mixed with Freekbass' future funk and signature thumping style in a delightful concoction that's suited for many musical tastes.

The latest reissue from dusty-fingered crate digger Kev Griffiths' Isle of Jura imprint is a particularly deep selection. Originally released way back in 1990, 'Voaria' is a killer Kwaito cut from the point when the glassy-eyed end of American and European house music was beginning to seriously influence the development of the sound. As it was on the original 12" single, the song is presented in two brilliant variations: the A-side 'House Mix', where eyes-closed male lead vocals, spine-tingling piano riffs, Yamaha DX7 synth melodies and spacey Roland Juno chords ride a rubbery synth bassline and mid-tempo machine drums, and the longer, more dubbed-out, groove-based 'Clubhouse Mix'. A genuine must-have.

Daptone main man Bosco Mann firmly believes that Lee Fields' 1998 album Let's Get a Groove On played a big part in sparking the modern funk revival of the last two decades. Whether or not that's the case is debatable, but there's no denying the quality of the album - as this fully re-mastered reissue proves. The album's genius lies not in the insanely good (and mostly deliciously heavy) J.B's-like funk backing tracks, but the sheer energy and impassioned quality of Fields' vocal performances. It's one of those albums that not only sounds like it could have been recorded at the turn-of-the-'70s, but should also be in the record box of any serious funk enthusiast. In other words, you need this in your life.
Whereas the band’s debut album ‘Popular Music’ was broadly political, the new album takes a more personal approach with beguilingly honest and brave lyrics that are bold in both sound and feeling, whilst also retaining the core DNA of their previous material.Going on to speak about the album Mez says “A Picture of Good Health is not a collage of work but rather a snapshot of time; our time and the time of those around us. It’s political, but in a personal way. It’s a body of work that explores and examines the bands inner-selves through a precise period; a period that has brought pain, loneliness, blood, guts, single parenthood, depression and the need for survival and love. It is the sense and need for belonging that is the resounding endnote!”
