After a first album released on Comet Records in 2011 and acclaimed by the media (Selection FIP, playlist Radio Nova, Vibrations, Songlines, Gilles Peterson, Laurent Garnier, etc…), the ©© Les Frères Smith collective is back with an even more ambitious new LP. Recorded the old school way and mixed by genius producer Masta Conga in line with the tradition of the great albums of the analog era, which results in a warm and heavy sound ; a production worth the ones by the Nuyorican Daptone Records or Truth & Soul.

There's plenty to set the pulse racing within this new set of remixes of tracks from Seb Wildblood's superb album "Sketches Of Transition", which dropped on All My Thoughts earlier in the year. Our pick of the bunch is the superb Suzanne Kraft remix of "Amelia", which wraps glistening '80s guitar sounds and fretless bass notes around a chugging, arpeggio-driven groove, though many may gravitate towards the tight but undeniably groovy and melodious Jenifa Mayanja deep house version of "Small Talk". Elsewhere, Ciel re-imagines "Bahn" as an intoxicating chunk of bleep-laden broken electronica/Balearic fusion, while object blue impressively chops up "Sketches" into a sludgy, mind-altering style.

Tunnel vision réédite Âme triste de A Gethsemani – Opus Dark Wave français de 1987Âme triste est le premier album d’un projet-groupe né dans la deuxième moitié des années 80 A Gethsemani, mené de front par Bernard Odot, seul aux commandes pour cet album. Bernard Odot vient de faire l’acquisition d’un DX7, joue dans un groupe ardennais nommé Anackarsis Section, et parallèlement compose sur un 4 pistes. Le résultat est une musique sombre, à la limite du gothique, mais sans artefact précieux. Loin des sons parfois amateurs que l’on peut retrouver dans la no wave et post punk française, les nappes synthétiques sont parfaitement modernes. Il est même étonnant qu’un DX7 eût pu donner un tel résultat !
