ARTIST(S):Ralph Session TITLE:Bronx '84 LABEL:HALTD001 | Half Assed Limited 1 STYLES:House Deep

Up next for Barcelona based producer and DJ Ralph Session is his new vinyl label, Half Assed Limited. Kicking off with his first release is a fire house four-tracker, the ‘Bronx ’84’ EP.

This collection of tracks from Ralph Session feature two driving Disco/Jazz house tracks - ‘Discoteca’ and ‘Dance Dance’, and two tracks featuring that Session blend of old school influences and contemporary production, ‘Turn It Up’ and ‘I Feel It’.

‘Dance Dance’ is the product of Ralphs’ latest studio session with fellow New Yorker DJ Romain and along with ‘Discoteca’ subtly draws on the music of Ralph’s youth. ‘Turn It Up’ is a high-end Detroit influenced groover and the high energy drive of ‘I Feel It’ finishes off the EP perfectly.

‘There’s a sense of nostalgia for the Bronx of his childhood in the 80s and Saturdays spent cleaning the house soundtracked by his Mom’s musical selections. This EP is dedicated to Ralph’s mother Lisa Marinelli Rodriguez.

‘Bronx ’84’ is a collection of dirty, underground disco-funk-tech jams, perfect for the dance floor, oven-ready to be dropped into the mix.

<< Last few of this gem, once it's gone, it's gone >>the long anticipated E B U full-length on NoCorner is now sat here at Le Discopathe HQ, ready to ship.If you managed to grab one of the limited 12″s with ‘Falling’ & ‘Light Show’ plus remixes – then you know what you’re in for here, and the chances of your captivation are already high…If not, then here’s your chance for the full dive into E B U’s one-in-a-million sound world. It’s a very special record, one of the most uniquely alluring albums we’ve heard in some time –and we’re sure this is only the beginning of her journey, so do yourself a favour and step inside now.Throughout Hinge, Unnatural sounds and pitches exhale in melodic chants, ominous basslines resound and eerie loops fixate in this macabre ensemble. You are captive in her world. Moments of haunting clarity keep you wondering where she will take you next whilst strange narratives unfold. In her music and performances, her chameleonic visual display is charged with emotion, keeping you suspended in a state of flux as she orbits through the spectrum. ‘Stimulated by human behaviour and existence, she questions the very nature of being and invites the audience to explore through her cathartic performance.’To our ears, her sound captures elements of the radiophonic qualities by electronic pioneers such as Delia Derbyshire, through to unlikely melody and harmony akin to that of Ryuchi Sakamoto or Laurie Anderson. It’s an exploration of strange places with a weird & wonderful sphere, sonically capturing the colourful intensity of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s Holy Mountain, or perhaps sounding like a much more out-there, much more convincingly extra-terrestrial Space lady… These are just vague comparisons though… Essentially, her sound is a total world of it’s own.Hinge, E B U’s debut album, is an outer body experience that will conjure up memories you never had before, images you can’t quite place but somehow relate to, and a sense of sweet disorientation as you slip into a whirlpool of shapeshifting melody, harmony and frequency.
The eclectic sensitivity of the composer Roberto Laneri (Prima Materia) looks unparalleled in the Italian avant-garde context. Anadyomene, published for the first time in 1987, shows the myth of Venus in a dystopian and dreamlike world. Laneri conceives a sound poem that opens up to the archetypal dimension of the water creation, through the symbol of bivalve conch, the myth of the feminine power is narrated thanks to the verses of the renaissance poet Angelo Poliziano. Creating a daring connection between western and eastern music, travelling on the Mediterranean sea, the contemporary technologies and techniques revive and re-read ancient musical practices: contrapuntal structures and minimal electronic procedures venture into exotic analogies, strange Renaissance allusions, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean repertoires. Among otherworldly fairy voices, symphonic wandering pathos, aquatic disturbances, Indian Hindustani echoes or psychedelic radiances. A special relationship between space and time, architecture and music, the manipulation of sounds conceived as the art of memory in its various meanings of preservation, transformation and distortion.
Reissue of this obscure cassette from 1987, a really interesting rarity by Carl Matthews under the CAM moniker. Sturdy synth basslines sculpt solid rhythm patterns that bring to mind the innovations of the moment in electro and dance records. Having in mind that Matthews was a white ambient composer, it´s very curious to find him dropping these groovy bombs that sound like a primitive detroit electro or hip hop beats, mixed with sampled voices that recall Art of Noise influences. Also to mention the conceptual work: Quid Rides is inspired in Roman Civilization, as the name of both the album and tracks point (all of them in latin). Experimental-roman-electro seems to be a pretty weird label, but works fine here... Mutant-futuristic-proto-electro for roman statues would work too.Letterpress cover, including insert with liner notes by Colin potter, who has also been in charge of the remastering.crédits
