Following the success of last year’s ‘Somebody’s Knocking’ LP, Mark Lanegan has announced the news of his new solo album, ‘Straight Songs Of Sorrow’. The album, which is closely aligned to his forthcoming memoir features guest appearances from Greg Dulli, Warren Ellis, John Paul Jones, Ed Harcourt and more. When considering any great work of art, it’s natural to wonder what might have inspired it: ‘the story behind the song’. Mark Lanegan’s new album, ‘Straight Songs Of Sorrow’, flips that equation. Here are 15 songs inspired by a story: his life story, as documented by his own hand in his new memoir, ‘Sing Backwards And Weep’. The book is a brutal, nerve-shredding read, thanks to Lanegan’s unsparing candour in recounting a journey from troubled youth in eastern Washington, through his drugstained existence amid the ’90s Seattle rock scene, to an unlikely salvation at the dawn of the 21st century. There’s death and tragedy, yet also humour and hope, thanks to the tenacity which impels its host, even at his lowest moments. ‘Straight Songs Of Sorrow’ combines musical trace elements from early Mark Lanegan albums with the synthesized constructs of later work. The album feels both definitive and unique, a culmination of its creator’s arc yetalso indicative of the energy that drives him onto future horizons. No wonder Lanegan is proud.
Doroth follow on from a 2019 self-released digi EP with this fresh 7” for Research. The duo of Loretta Wilde and Maria Moles from Melbourne have established a song writing craft that’s equal parts This Heat and Throwing Muses; all disjointed rhythms and dry vocal delivery that seems to come with an intentional feeling of malaise. Where their self-titled EP allowed for the sprawling Still House Plants-esque sound of ‘On The Lamb’, both ‘Take It Easier’ and ‘Picture’ condense the live sound into two sub 4 minute slices of indie pop / art rock goodness. We’ve got no clue what photograph Wilde is singing about but the combination of bass and drums bouncing off one another underneath her prolonged strainings will be sure to stick in your brain.'crédits

Moving musis is out with it's third Soundtrack release, the 1982 Norwegian cult feature "Carl Gustav, the Gang and the Parking Bandits" A teenage flick set in the outskirts of Bergen. A Band of black dressed greedy corporate thugs are converting all the playgrounds in the area to parking lots. This doesn't fit well with the local youth, Carl Gustav and his friends finds all the clues, traces down the thugs and get their revenge at the castle finale. Well respected Norwegian director Ola Solum again hired Pete Knutsen (see also Operasjon Cobra MM02 ost) and his bandmates from Popol Ace for the job to make the score. And the result is a brilliant small group funky rock outfit with plenty of open breaks, quirky instrumentation and interludes. Songs from the film includes vocal tracks by famous Norwegian pop artist Jahn Teigen and the punk group Alle Tiders Duster.Never before released and remastered from multitrack tapes by Timmion Finland, this score is long overdue but finally available for the first time! Comes with downloadcodes and limited to 500 copies!
