Camion Bazar started out as a nomad festival stage, partying and playing hybrid sets all over Europe. Over the years the project has grown, becoming a well-known DJ duo, throwing notoriously crazy parties and also founding their own label, Jaki Records.Their debut EP, Honeymoon 20, plays like a trip, a nice, happy, smooth start to a strange year, getting progressively harder and darker. This release illustrates how they somehow got through it all.Kicking things off, "Beow" is a moody deep and dynamic Chicago house style tune. Featuring deft melodic touches and killer bass, the track is densely layered with piano and synth phrases. On flip side "Baby 100 coins" is an energetic deep house groove, made up of layers upon layers of pads, synths and rich melodies, a groovy warm-up weapon!Closing out proceedings, "YLB" begins like a classic 2-step garage track before moving into hard-techno territory, the tune grabs you and pulls you up, higher and higher, until you lose control and escape reality. Chopped rhythm, huge kicks, crazy breaks. Just let go!TRACKLISTA1: BeowB1: Baby 100 CoinsB2: Ylb (Vinyl Edit)PLAY ALL 3 tracks
Currently a trio featuring Helge Sten, Arve Henriksen and Ståle Storløkken, Supersilent ’s album number 13 marks a turning point in the group’s two-decade career. After a dozen recordings under the umbrella of the diverse Rune Grammofon label, Supersilent have now signed to Oslo based Smalltown Supersound, where they join the likes of Lindstrøm, DJ Harvey, Prins Thomas and Andre Bratten as labelmates. After live and studio dalliances with Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones in the last few years, they return to the trio format with a real hunger and wigged-out vibe, covering more distance in the space of one record than many bands do in their whole career. Atavistic, abstract and alien, 13 documents a tangle of ribboning, in-the-moment thought processes in oscillation between atonal, asymmetric rhythms and discord and much lusher, spacious flights of fancy, with each player alternately operating at full, noisily expressive wingspan, and also at their most hunched, grubbing. Perhaps most shocking is prominent appearance of crushing, post-techno sludge impulses and almost darkwave-styled themes, whether infiltrating the opener with sloppy syncopation, slung low under 13.3 like Wolf Eyes at their most primal, squashed into the sprawling, psychotomimetic structure of 13.7 or clattering and fizzing under the weight of 13.9. But that’s just one of many deeply skewed aspects that light up across 13, which also shares much in common with the surrealistic, dissonant illuminations of Rashad Becker throughout, whilst the likes of 13.4 head off on crankiest electro-acoustic vectors recalling Edgard Varese’s early electronics or the ferric tang of Gottfried Michael Koenig, whereas 13.8 recalls the gloaming spectres of Gruppo D’Improvvisazione, and the ecstatic squall of 13.9 feels like Fennesz undergoing some radical metamorphosis. Figure it out for yourself, but for us this is one of the wildest, freeform sides of 2016 so far.
Barcelona based Annie Hall drops her debut EP on 20/20 Vision ‘Maruxaina’, following releases on D1, Detroit Underground, Semantica, CPU and most recently our Exit Planet Earth vinyl series. Annie’s eclectic and uniquely expressive output has seen her serve up tracks that take you straight to the dance floor, alongside complex and inventive musical soundscapes.Kicking things off on the A side the title track ‘Maruxaina’ draws you in with nostalgic breaks and bass trudges, complimented by warm echoed chords and hypnotic tones. Next up on the A side ‘Meiga’ serves up a driving groove with deep rolling drums and patterned glitches, intertwining uplifting chord progressions and a soothing vocal, forming a uniquely mesmerising electronic soundscape. ‘Brétema’ opens up the B side with a space bound atmospheric gem, grounded by a solid break groove yet elevated with cinematographic synths and harmonic melodies. Wrapping up the EP ‘Sarabia’ provides an unapologetic experimental expression that blurs the boundaries of genre, with off kilter pads, deep kicks and edgy glass synths creating a beautifully obscure serenity.
