As a fine collector of Jazz-Funk and Fusion for many years, Charles Maurice selected some of his favorite forgotten productions, as he previously did for the AOR Global Sounds, French and Brazilian Disco Boogie Sounds compilations series. This time, recordings come from Sweden, Switzerland, South Africa, New Zealand, Uruguay, Spain and France, from artists and bands mostly known in their local scenes. You'll hear here the best elements of the Fusion and Jazz-Funk genre: breezy vocal arrangements reminding Flora Purim in Return To Forever or George Duke's albums, sweet and virtuosic Fender Rhodes (kind of common thread of the comp), melodic spiral-shaped fuzzy synthesizers leads, or irresistible basslines, altogether bringing a unique groove to life.
One Up, DJ & Beatmaker from Nantes, France, has a passionate love for Soul, Funk and Hip Hop, releases his first album Heritage, which represents a musical heritage from all the meetings and travelling experiences who built him artistically. This album results of the collaboration with Slapback group, with 10 banging tracks which feet perfectly for dancing background and also if you do stunts with your car!One Up has performed all over the world, in the biggest breakdance battles, like Adikal Force Jam in Singapour, Floor Wars in Danemark, Evolution in New York, Arka Battle in Mexique et in France with the classic Hip Opsession from Nantes or Battle of The Year in Montpellier.
In the 60s and 70s Arthur Verocai arranged for the likes of Jorge Ben, Gal Costa, Marcos Valle and other such legends of Brazilian pop music. However, it was his self-titled debut album in 1972 which now largely defines Vaerocai's reputation, although it was a resounding failure in Brazil upon its release. His sound looked to US jazz, pop and soul as much as bossa nova, and it was only in the 2000s that it started to be picked up on in the US and elsewhere. The passage of time helps place certain records, and that's especially true of this incredible curio from a bygone era, which strikes a mysterious out-of-time-and-place quality as Rodriguez's classic Cold Fact. Here's to the overlooked greats - may they all find their moment in the sun eventually.
Following releases for Couch Acid and Hot Shit Sounds, the enigmatic J. Quaid appears for Steven Julien's Apron imprint on his third long player titled Dreem Static - taking you on a machine-funk odyssey to inner space. From the p-funk inspired opener "Mirage", the dark patterns of dystopian electro epic 'Binary Starr', to some impressive drum programming on the evocative house journey 'Latent Heat' and ending with the slo-mo, neon-lit nite moves of 'City Of Dreams' complete with the metallic shimmer of FM synthesis.
Limited to 24.150 copies. The Gold Experience was the first full-length Prince album to be credited to his unpronounceable symbol, and was released at the most public, heated stage of his battle with the major label industrial complex. With the word “slave” written on one cheek, Prince shined on the opulent ballads “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World” and “Gold” and the defiant single “Eye Hate U,” and the album earned widespread critical acclaim. The Record Store Day 2022 re-release of The Gold Experience is an homage to the rare US-only promo version of the album released in 1995. The two-LP set is pressed onto translucent gold vinyl with a bonus suite of “Eye Hate U” remixes on Side D.
